Seth Newton (Basketball, Nebraska Wesleyan University) grew up in Canon City. HelloNation asks student athletes one question about the place that raised them and records the answer on camera. This is Seth Newton’s, in full.
The question
Tell a story about a moment when your hometown came together or achieved something that made you proud.
The answer, as recorded
Transcript. What follows is a transcript of the video above, in Seth Newton’s own words. It has not been rewritten, and no part of it was drafted for them.
Something that my hometown of Canyon City did that made me proud was during the COVID-19 pandemic, when our football team my senior year got shut down due to an outbreak within our school and within our community. Our teachers like Mr. Manchester, faculty, Mr. Bill Summers, and students like Emma Rowe, Taylor and I all came together to help with our morale. Brought us pizza, brought us food, brought us blankets and handwritten cards, which were all really nice things of them to do to help lift our spirits up in a time where many of us, our careers had just ended and we were all very upset and feeling sad. So it was very nice of them and made me very proud to be a part of that community.
