Editorial Standards
How Hello Newswire decides what to report, how we report it and what we do when we get it wrong.
Independence
No advertiser, sponsor, partner organization or nominator has any influence over whether a story is reported, what it says or where it appears. Nobody can buy coverage, a headline, a photo or a placement. If a business is featured, it is because something happened, not because something was purchased.
Sourcing
Every story is reported by a named Hello Newswire correspondent who talks to the people involved. A submission is a lead rather than a draft, however it arrives, and what publishes is the correspondent’s own reporting. Facts that matter to the story are verified before publication, and we say where information came from.
Fairness to the people in a story
People named in a story are given the chance to speak for themselves. We do not publish a person's contact details, home address or a minor's full identifying information without permission from them or a guardian.
Positive, not fictional
Hello Newswire exists to make sure good news gets reported. That is a beat, not a filter on reality. We do not overstate, we do not invent, and we do not describe something as a success that is not one. Hello Newswire also does not pretend serious news is not happening; it simply is not what Hello Newswire covers.
Conflicts of interest
Correspondents disclose any personal, family, financial or employment relationship to a story before it is assigned. When a conflict cannot be managed, the story goes to someone else.
Photos and media
Photographs are real and unstaged unless the caption says otherwise. We do not composite, add or remove elements. Color and crop adjustments are allowed; anything that changes what happened is not.
Corrections
If we get something wrong, we fix it and say so. Corrections are noted at the bottom of the story with the date and what changed. To request one, email hello@hellonewswire.com with the story link and what is inaccurate.
Right of reply and removal
If you are in a story and something is wrong, we will correct it. Published stories are part of the public record and are not removed on request, except where publication would create a safety risk.
Correspondents in training
Many Hello Newswire correspondents are journalism and communications students. Every story is reviewed by an editor before it publishes. Training does not lower the standard, and a byline means the person did the reporting.
Partner organizations
Chambers, associations, municipalities, schools and nonprofits can nominate stories and republish stories from their area. Partnership does not buy coverage, influence editorial judgment or guarantee that a nomination becomes a story.
Edvertising
Edvertising is HelloNation’s word for education-first publishing, and Hello Newswire’s model puts useful, credible information first. Recognition follows when people or organizations contribute something worth knowing. That is the opposite of paid placement, and the distinction is not negotiable.
Who publishes Hello Newswire, and who pays for it
Hello Newswire is the good news newswire of HelloNation, published by CGI Communications, Inc., doing business as CGI Digital and HelloNation, of Rochester, New York. HelloNation funds Hello Newswire in full.
Nominating is free, partnering is free, there is no sponsorship tier and no advertising is sold against this site. Correspondents are never paid by the people or organizations they cover. A funder has no more influence over a story than a nominator does, and neither has any.
We disclose this rather than bury it, because a reader is entitled to know who is behind a publication before deciding how much to trust it.

A business can be featured. It just has to do something worth featuring first.
