Community Voices: Mason on how to describe Valparaiso to an outsider

If someone had never been to my hometown, I would describe its reputation as very easygoing, a lot of good people around, it's very safe.

Mason Nobles (Cross Country, Indiana State University) grew up in Valparaiso. HelloNation asks student athletes one question about the place that raised them and records the answer on camera. This is Mason Nobles’s, in full.

The question

If someone had never been to your hometown, how would you describe its character and reputation? What makes it unique, memorable, or influential?

The answer, as recorded

If someone had never been to my hometown, I would describe its reputation as very easygoing, a lot of good people around, it's very safe. There was this one time that I went into Strachan Van Til to pick up some groceries for my mom and I was having trouble looking for, I forget what it was, but it was some ingredient and this lady, she didn't even work there, but she could tell that I was struggling and she came over and she helped me and we found it together. And I feel like that really represents my hometown and that's what really makes it memorable is that the people will go out of their way to help you. They can see that if you're struggling or if you need help and they'll be there for you and I feel like that is what really makes my hometown different than other hometowns.
