Warren Gravely (Baseball, University of Notre Dame) grew up in Santa Cruz. HelloNation asks student athletes one question about the place that raised them and records the answer on camera. This is Warren Gravely’s, in full.
The question
Name three small business owners in your community who have had a meaningful impact on others or inspired you personally. Who are they, and why do they stand out as a pillar of your community?
The answer, as recorded
Transcript. What follows is a transcript of the video above, in Warren Gravely’s own words. It has not been rewritten, and no part of it was drafted for them.
I'm from Santa Cruz, California, and three small businesses that have stood out to the community are Matt Ross and Gilles Rossi Training. It is where all the young athletes go and work out and get better at their baseball or any sport that they play. It has really brought people together. It really brought me to the person I am today, getting to go lift there every single day. And another place is the Scotts Valley Market, which I would go to after working out, where it has great food, great community, and just being able to go in there and get those rib sandwiches that are homemade are just such an awesome opportunity. And then the third is the Beach Boardwalk in Santa Cruz. It is a great rave run thing. I love going there with the family and friends and just getting to experience that place and just that culture, especially going on all the rides and making long life memories there. And that is why these places stand out in the community of Santa Cruz.
