Marco Patierno (Football, Western Carolina University) grew up in Raleigh. HelloNation asks student athletes one question about the place that raised them and records the answer on camera. This is Marco Patierno’s, in full.
The question
If someone had never been to your hometown, how would you describe its character and reputation? What makes it unique, memorable, or influential?
The answer, as recorded
Transcript. What follows is a transcript of the video above, in Marco Patierno’s own words. It has not been rewritten, and no part of it was drafted for them.
If someone has never been to my hometown, the number one word I would use to describe it is growing. So when I first moved there in 2010 to Raleigh, it was a really a smaller area. We were one of the newer houses in the neighborhood. There's probably no more than 20 houses and I would fast forward 10 years later, there is probably over 150 houses, more than that. Neighborhoods are connecting through other neighborhoods. You can drive from one city to the next. And yeah, it's really such a growing area. They say it's one of the best new spots to start up a business, start up a family. And I think it's really influential because it could show how much change something could happen to a certain place or a certain someone. If you just put your mind to it, have the right people supporting you and backing you, that you could really grow and flourish into the person or the place or the lifestyle that you want for yourself or your family.
