This policy explains what we collect when you use hellonewswire.com, nominate a story, apply to Team Hello or partner with us as an organization.

How Hello Newswire is funded

Hello Newswire is funded entirely by HelloNation. Nominating a story is free, partnering with Hello Newswire is free, and no business, organization or sponsor can pay for coverage or influence it. We do not sell your information, and there is no advertising product attached to this site.

What we collect

Information you give us. When you submit a nomination, a correspondent application or a partner inquiry, we collect the details on that form: your name, email, phone, organization, location and whatever you tell us about the story. If you name someone else as a contact for a story, we collect their name and contact details from you.

Information collected automatically. Standard web server logs, including IP address, browser type, pages visited and referring page. We use cookies for site functionality and aggregate analytics. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

How we use it

To report and publish stories, to contact you and the people involved in a nomination, to route a nomination to the correspondent covering your area, to review Team Hello applications, to communicate with partner organizations, and to keep the site working and secure. We do not sell your information, and we do not use it to sell advertising or coverage.

Nominations and the people in them

A nomination is a lead for a journalist. If you name another person or organization, a correspondent may contact them and tell them who submitted the nomination. Do not submit contact details for someone who would not want to be contacted. Submitting a nomination does not guarantee coverage, and it does not obligate anyone named in it to participate.

Published stories

Published stories are public and are distributed to partner organizations and publishers. Names, quotes, photos and the community a story came from are part of the published record. If you are quoted or photographed in a story and need a correction, contact us and we will review it.

Correspondents

Team Hello correspondents have a public author profile with their name, community, photo and published work. Application materials that do not result in a published profile are kept only as long as needed to evaluate the application.

Who we share it with

Service providers that host the site, send our email and store our files, under contract and only for those purposes. Partner organizations receive published stories from their territory, not nomination contact details. We disclose information when required by law, and we will resist requests that are not.

Sources and confidentiality

If you contact us about a story and ask to remain unnamed, tell the correspondent before you share the information. We treat source protection seriously, but we cannot promise confidentiality retroactively.

How long we keep it

Nominations and their correspondence are kept as part of the editorial record. Applications not accepted are deleted within twelve months. Analytics data is retained in aggregate.

Your choices

You can ask us what we hold about you, ask for a correction, ask us to delete information that is not part of a published story or the editorial record, and unsubscribe from any email we send. Email hello@hellonewswire.com and we will respond within thirty days.

Children

The site is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their information. Correspondents who are minors participate only through a school or program with a parent or guardian on record.

Changes

We will post any change to this policy on this page and update the date below. Material changes will be noted at the top of the page.
