Alexander Cordrey (Golf, Park University) grew up in MO. HelloNation asks student athletes one question about the place that raised them and records the answer on camera. This is Alexander Cordrey’s, in full.
The question
Tell us about a teacher or mentor from high school who challenged you the most or inspired you in a way that still shapes who you are today. Who are they, and what lesson from them do you carry into your life now?
The answer, as recorded

Hello Nation, this is Alexander Caldwell Jr. from Kansas City, Missouri. I'm a student at Park University where I play golf. I'm originally from Freedomsport, Denmark. That's where I went to high school and where I met a very special teacher. I went to NGG High School and my Danish teacher was called Jim. A bit of a character, some liked him, some don't, but he was very clever and gave me some very wise words. You pick and choose when you're ill. Obviously not everybody can do that, and sometimes you get very unfortunate in certain situations. But he did make me realize just because I feel a bit ill, I don't really feel like doing something, doesn't mean I shouldn't. Doesn't mean I can't just get up and force my way through it. If my nose is running a bit, I can still go to school. I can still go up, work hard, make some more money, or just get better at anything I'm doing. I'm going to try and do that. Waking up in the morning and really doing whatever I want to do that morning. No matter if I was coughing a bit, if I got a bit of a fever, whatever, I'm not feeling well, I'll find a way and I'll push through it. For that, I really thank you Jim. You made me a better person.
