The story that comes to my mind is when my high school girls cross country team qualified for state for the first time in 13 years. We knew it wouldn't be easy and every runner counted during the regional qualifying race. The moment we found out we placed third as a team and qualified for state was one I'll never forget. My teammates and I were jumping around and hugging with excitement along with parents and friends and we ran around to find our coaches to celebrate with them. We saw this as a big step in the right direction for our sport and a moment that would be remembered for how our team worked together when it mattered. The other two schools that qualified congratulated us as well and following the race our school supported and rallied around our team by having a send-off parade for us when we traveled to state. I was proud of my team, my school, and the community of Olathe for working together to create some of the best athletes in the state.
