The question

Hi, I'm Callie Schrock and I'm from Bellflower, California. Currently, I play soccer at Dallas Baptist University. I attended Valley Christian High School and was extremely blessed to receive such a Christ-centered education from remarkable teachers who truly shaped who I am today. But there's one teacher in particular that really inspired me in and outside of the classroom, and his name is Mr. Tamaga, or Mr. T as everyone likes to call him. Now, I had Mr. T from my sophomore Honors Advanced Chemistry class as well as my Human Anatomy and Physiology class my senior year of high school. And while I have to admit, science was not necessarily my favorite subject, I really grew to love it because of Mr. T. He just had this remarkable way of teaching that really kept me and all other students engaged. And while I learned a lot from him academically, there's still a really important life lesson that I carry into my life today. Now, Mr. T would begin every semester with a short clip from the Dead Poets Society. And in this video, the teacher showed his students a visual display of alumni in their graduating years. Each of them had their own aspirations and dreams of changing the world, but the fact was all these people were no longer living. And the teacher proceeded to walk around the room and whisper carpe diem, which means seize the day. And I remember Mr. T shutting off his computer, whispering carpe diem, seize the day. And I remember being a little perplexed at the seemingly eerie message. But as I reflect on it now, it's a beautiful reminder and mindset of life. Seize the day. As an athlete, I don't know when my season will end, so I must seize every opportunity I have. And in just three short years, my time of playing collegiate soccer will sadly come to an end. So like I said, it's a beautiful reminder to never take the sport I love or really anything for granted. I'm Callie Schrock reporting from Bellflower, California for Hello Nation. Remember to carpe diem. Seize the day.
