Demarion Ware (Football, Missouri Baptist University) grew up in Saint Louis. HelloNation asks student athletes one question about the place that raised them and records the answer on camera. This is Demarion Ware’s, in full.

Demarion Ware for HelloNation.

The question

Tell us about a teacher or mentor from high school who challenged you the most or inspired you in a way that still shapes who you are today. Who are they, and what lesson from them do you carry into your life now?

The answer, as recorded

Transcript. What follows is a transcript of the video above, in Demarion Ware’s own words. It has not been rewritten, and no part of it was drafted for them.

Hello, my name is Demarion Ware, a reporter from St. Louis. When I was in high school, I attended Riverview Gardens. At Riverview Gardens, there was a coach named Coach Tiwa. Coach Tiwa always used to tell me, every fire doesn't need gasoline put in it. Everybody don't deserve the energy that you think they deserve when you let someone make you mad. And learning that, I opened more doorways to getting stuff because I'm not giving my energy out to everybody. Like, when people get you out of your body and they want you to argue with them, they want your energy. But them teaching me not to give every single fire that type of gasoline or that energy to explode helped me in life, helped me with managers that I felt weren't doing me right, helped me with people that I felt weren't doing me right. And even though you got to deal with those type of people, knowing how to control your emotions is ten times better than knowing you won't do anything crazy.
