Community Voices: Will on how to describe Ruston to an outsider

My city can be remembered for many things, many great things. We have college sports, we have high school sports, we have theater, we have playgrounds, we have a whole sports center that we just constructed.

Will Estes (Track & Field (Outdoor), Louisiana Tech University) grew up in Ruston. HelloNation asks student athletes one question about the place that raised them and records the answer on camera. This is Will Estes’s, in full.

Will Estes for HelloNation.

The question

If someone had never been to your hometown, how would you describe its character and reputation? What makes it unique, memorable, or influential?

The answer, as recorded

Transcript. What follows is a transcript of the video above, in Will Estes’s own words. It has not been rewritten, and no part of it was drafted for them.

My city can be remembered for many things, many great things. We have college sports, we have high school sports, we have theater, we have playgrounds, we have a whole sports center that we just constructed. There are so many things in my hometown that make it great, that add to its uniqueness, that add to its character, that add to its reputation. We have our mayor, Ronnie Walker, doing so much for our hometown, doing so much for where we live, where we raise our children, where we go to school. Everything that has been done has been done for this city, the city of Ruston, Louisiana. And I'd say that that reputation holds true, that reputation holds strong. People come here. We don't leave here. People come here, they start families, they have friends, they get together, they have dinner, they know each other. Everyone helps one another here. And I think that's unique about our town, I think that's great about our town, I think that's memorable about our town. And every single person coming together in order to make it great is what has made it great. And I don't think you can find that in many other places. I don't think that other places you go will have that exact same character, that exact same uniqueness, that exact same come-together-ness that we have here. And I know I appreciate it. Thank you.
