Kevin Lawson (Soccer, Harris-Stowe State University) grew up in Ypsilanti. HelloNation asks student athletes one question about the place that raised them and records the answer on camera. This is Kevin Lawson’s, in full.
The question
Tell us about a teacher or mentor from high school who challenged you the most or inspired you in a way that still shapes who you are today. Who are they, and what lesson from them do you carry into your life now?
The answer, as recorded

How you guys doing today? It's Kevin Lawson from Ypsilanti, Michigan, and a teacher or mentor from high school that challenged me the most and inspired me in a way was Mike Brown. He went to my church, he was my Sunday school teacher, and he grew up playing basketball in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and he went to Huron High School in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and then he went on to play collegiate basketball at Wayne State University, won the championship over there, and after that he became a coach, a Division I coach at Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti, Michigan, as well as helping out high schools around the area in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and something he did to challenge me was just he pushed me to be the best. He would always ask if I'm working hard, he would come to tryouts that I had for high school, he'd come to games I had, are you really giving your all, and things like that, and then by last year, just now being a senior, he had given me some advice, you got to treat it like it's your last, treat every day, each training session, do the most you can, and that's what led me to helping win a championship this year with my college team, so thank you.
