Maddox Meyer (Baseball, University of Nebraska at Omaha) grew up in Malcolm. HelloNation asks student athletes one question about the place that raised them and records the answer on camera. This is Maddox Meyer’s, in full.
The question
Tell us about a teacher or mentor from high school who challenged you the most or inspired you in a way that still shapes who you are today. Who are they, and what lesson from them do you carry into your life now?
The answer, as recorded
Transcript. What follows is a transcript of the video above, in Maddox Meyer’s own words. It has not been rewritten, and no part of it was drafted for them.
Someone who inspired me in a way and shapes who I am today was Tanner Soderberg, my high school legion coach. A lesson they taught me was to have fun playing the child's game that I do, and it's really not as important as you think it is. You only get so long playing baseball, and honestly, the time runs out eventually. So being present, playing with your teammates, playing with your best buds from high school is really what's important. At the end of the day, winning's fun, but winning isn't everything, and when you want to win, you've got to have fun. So that's the main thing I took out of my high school baseball experience.
