Community Voices: Arissa on how to describe La Follette to an outsider

If someone had never been to my hometown, I would describe its character as southern, welcoming, and unique. Where I live is a small town in La Folla, Tennessee, and we are right on Norris Lake.

Arissa Baker (Cheerleading, University of the Cumberlands) grew up in La Follette. HelloNation asks student athletes one question about the place that raised them and records the answer on camera. This is Arissa Baker’s, in full.

The question

If someone had never been to your hometown, how would you describe its character and reputation? What makes it unique, memorable, or influential?

If someone had never been to my hometown, I would describe its character as southern, welcoming, and unique. Where I live is a small town in La Folla, Tennessee, and we are right on Norris Lake. So we are 1000% a lake town, meaning we have lots of travelers in the summertime, which makes it so much fun to see all these new people. Everyone loves the lake and the atmosphere along with the beautiful Appalachian Mountains. It's unique because although it is small, we try to keep things fun. There's not many things to do, so we kind of just find our own things, and most of us are willing to do anything. Its character is very welcoming. You will not meet a single person here that doesn't want you here. We're like, yes, please come down. Have you tried the local restaurant sidelines? What about the Mexican restaurant El Poblidos? They're amazing. Come down. This is how you get there, and it is wonderful. I love my small town.
