Logan Brown (Football, Langston University) grew up in Oklahoma City. HelloNation asks student athletes one question about the place that raised them and records the answer on camera. This is Logan Brown’s, in full.
The question
Tell us about a teacher or mentor from high school who challenged you the most or inspired you in a way that still shapes who you are today. Who are they, and what lesson from them do you carry into your life now?
The answer, as recorded
Transcript. What follows is a transcript of the video above, in Logan Brown’s own words. It has not been rewritten, and no part of it was drafted for them.
My name is Logan Brown. I'm a current football player at Kentucky State University. Growing up in my city of Oklahoma City, I was guided by a lot of mentors and there's a lot of great role models in my life. I'll say the best mentor I had growing up was my ninth grade AU basketball coach, which is crazy because I ended up playing college football. But I'll say basketball because my coach actually gave me the confidence of what it is kind of to be an athlete. His name is Coach Hunt. Basically what Coach Hunt did is he kind of convinced me that, hey, like, regardless of if your shots falling, if it's dropping, you need to shoot it. And that was one of the best things I learned. I learned that whether when you shoot a basketball, you got to think it's going in for it to go in. And that's how you just make shots over time. Confidence is the biggest thing in sports. If you don't believe in yourself, nobody believe in you. And that's kind of something I carried with me my whole life. That lesson kind of carries into careers, jobs, anything like that as well. Thank you.
