Community Voices: Amy on why Olathe is a good place to raise a family

Olathe is a great place to raise a family for many reasons, including the quality of the public schools in the area, the safety of the community, and the local activities to participate in.

Amy Gotfredson (Cross Country, Missouri State University) grew up in Olathe. HelloNation asks student athletes one question about the place that raised them and records the answer on camera. This is Amy Gotfredson’s, in full.

Olathe is a great place to raise a family for many reasons, including the quality of the public schools in the area, the safety of the community, and the local activities to participate in. The public schools have great teachers and staff and many extracurricular activities and sports for kids to participate in. There are public parks to take children to, libraries that hold community events, and recreational sports teams for kids to join outside of school. Specifically, the Olathe Public Library holds free events for kids and people of all ages, like movie nights, story time in the park, book clubs, and watercolor classes. Olathe is generally a safe place to live. From my experience, children are safe to ride their bikes around the neighborhood, play outside with other kids, and walk home from school, which are things I all did growing up. There was always a strong community bond between the kids I grew up going to school with, even with a larger graduating class, and I think for those reasons, it would be a great place to raise a family.
