Community Voices: Aidan on the time Mc Lean came together

For me, a moment when my hometown came together and achieved something that made me really proud goes back, I think, all the way back to when I was in fifth or sixth grade.

Aidan Olazabal (Lacrosse, Yale University) grew up in Mc Lean. HelloNation asks student athletes one question about the place that raised them and records the answer on camera. This is Aidan Olazabal’s, in full.

For me, a moment when my hometown came together and achieved something that made me really proud goes back, I think, all the way back to when I was in fifth or sixth grade. Me and some of my best friends in my hometown in McLean, Virginia, we joined a local rec league. So this is basically right when I started off lacrosse. I was relatively new to the sport and so were my friends. The lacrosse scene in the DMV around the D.C. area, it's really strong. So the teams that we were playing, obviously we're all pretty young, but those guys were pretty good. So for me and my friends in my hometown playing lacrosse, relatively new to this whole world, and so we didn't necessarily know how the season was going to go. So we kind of shredded along game by game. I think what really led to our success is really just how close you were because I think, at least from my hometown, at least in McLean, everyone is just so connected and so our relationships are so strong. So we kind of came together, we bonded off of that, and we ended up having an amazing season. We won the rec league tournament and it was a year to remember.
