Allie Palmieri (Basketball, University of Massachusetts Amherst) grew up in Trumbull. HelloNation asks student athletes one question about the place that raised them and records the answer on camera. This is Allie Palmieri’s, in full.
The question
Tell us about a teacher or mentor from high school who challenged you the most or inspired you in a way that still shapes who you are today. Who are they, and what lesson from them do you carry into your life now?
The answer, as recorded
Transcript. What follows is a transcript of the video above, in Allie Palmieri’s own words. It has not been rewritten, and no part of it was drafted for them.
Somebody from high school that has had a huge impact on me was my high school basketball coach, Jen Harris. She taught me the value of hard work and just doing little things every single day that will help you make you 1% better. She was somebody, when I had a free period in school, she would be in the gym with me shooting. After practice, she would spend extra time shooting. And she helped me pick me up on days that I had a horrible day or I had a horrible performance. She told me that showing up the next day is just as important and that there is ups and downs. That's the game of life. That's the game of basketball. It's how you respond. And she told me that consistency matters more than anything. And it's just your perception of the world is going to just continue to change. But just know that work ethic and just determination and discipline are the three pillars. And just to lead with love, lead with connection, and everything will work out. So that's something that I've brought to where I am today and something that I always look back and I'm extremely grateful for. Because just her as a person has helped influence how I think, how I interpret the game, and just my mindset moving forward.
