Olathe has a reputation for being a prosperous and safe suburb to live in in the greater Kansas City area and is one of the more populated and well-known cities in the state of Kansas.

Amy Gotfredson (Cross Country, Missouri State University) grew up in Olathe. HelloNation asks student athletes one question about the place that raised them and records the answer on camera. This is Amy Gotfredson’s, in full.

The question

If someone had never been to your hometown, how would you describe its character and reputation? What makes it unique, memorable, or influential?

Olathe has a reputation for being a prosperous and safe suburb to live in in the greater Kansas City area and is one of the more populated and well-known cities in the state of Kansas. It has great job opportunities and educational opportunities for children. One memorable trait about Olathe is the ethnic diversity of the area. There's a large presence of Hispanic and Latino populations making up about nine to twelve percent of the population and Black or African Americans making up four to five percent of the population. Olathe has historical significance being a key stop on the Santa Fe Trail and the Oregon California Trail. It's also one of the fastest growing cities in the U.S. and one of the most highly educated. From my experience, Olathe has a reputation as a safe and welcoming community with strong schools and a strong workforce for those who live here.
