Brittney Burak (Cross Country, Indiana State University) grew up in Algonquin. HelloNation asks student athletes one question about the place that raised them and records the answer on camera. This is Brittney Burak’s, in full.
The question
If someone had never been to your hometown, how would you describe its character and reputation? What makes it unique, memorable, or influential?
The answer, as recorded

If someone had never been to my hometown of Algonquin, Illinois, I would describe its character and its reputation as very lively, welcoming, and community-like and very safe. And something that makes it unique and memorable and something that's really influential is we actually had an Olympic silver medalist that grew up in our town and went to high school there. Evan Yeager actually won a silver medal in the 2016 Olympics in Rio in the steeplechase event, and I just think that's really unique because not a lot of people can say that they've had an Olympian from their hometown and somebody that was able to have such high success competing at such a high level. So I think that's really cool and really unique about Algonquin, Illinois.
