Eatoniel Brown (Track & Field (Outdoor), New Jersey Institute of Technology) grew up in Plainfield. HelloNation asks student athletes one question about the place that raised them and records the answer on camera. This is Eatoniel Brown’s, in full.
The question
Tell a story about a moment when your hometown came together or achieved something that made you proud.
The answer, as recorded
Transcript. What follows is a transcript of the video above, in Eatoniel Brown’s own words. It has not been rewritten, and no part of it was drafted for them.
Something from my hometown that really helped shape me as an athlete was the way playing field comes together especially when one of our owners competing. I remember playing Westwood in football on one of the coldest rainiest days and even though we were going through a losing streak people from the community still came out to support us. The weather didn't stop anybody from showing up that day. We finally broke the losing streak and I was able to reach a huge achievement of a thousand rushing yards. The thousand yards wasn't even the biggest part for me. Seeing the community come together believing in us when things were going our way showed me what representing playing field really means. Taught me to keep fighting, stay resilient, and keep always representing where I come from with pride.
