Community Voices: Jayden on the person who shaped them in NC

There's not necessarily one teacher in particular that stood out insanely because I had such a strong support system.

Jayden Holmes (Wrestling, Montreat college) grew up in NC. HelloNation asks student athletes one question about the place that raised them and records the answer on camera. This is Jayden Holmes’s, in full.

Jayden Holmes for HelloNation.

The question

Tell us about a teacher or mentor from high school who challenged you the most or inspired you in a way that still shapes who you are today. Who are they, and what lesson from them do you carry into your life now?

The answer, as recorded

Transcript. What follows is a transcript of the video above, in Jayden Holmes’s own words. It has not been rewritten, and no part of it was drafted for them.

There's not necessarily one teacher in particular that stood out insanely because I had such a strong support system. So when I left my high school Olympic to do dual enrollment at another college, well, middle college, that college was called Harper Middle College. That entire program was so supportive. I mean, my, I believe he was my guidance counselor, Daryl Crutchfield, my principal, Miss O'Hare, my English teacher, Christian Jujite and Mr. Buzzy. Those were definitely people that stood out to me. My social studies teacher, Mr. Paul Arnold. And like it just is just so much love and appreciation. Everybody knew your name, what you had going on. Like they knew our schedules, our athletic schedules. They knew our class schedules. If we needed any tutoring, they were there to help us. And I got graduation. I cried so much because I knew that without them, I was almost lost, but they gave me that motivation to keep pushing and never give up.
