Kelly Martyanov (Soccer, Centenary University) grew up in Greenwich. HelloNation asks student athletes one question about the place that raised them and records the answer on camera. This is Kelly Martyanov’s, in full.
The question
If someone had never been to your hometown, how would you describe its character and reputation? What makes it unique, memorable, or influential?
The answer, as recorded
Transcript. What follows is a transcript of the video above, in Kelly Martyanov’s own words. It has not been rewritten, and no part of it was drafted for them.
I would say if someone had not been here in Grand Chicanette before, I would characterize us as hard workers, very intelligent, arduous workers, and great, successful student-athletes. Also very honorable in our communities as well. We do a lot of community service here, and we have a great reputation. We've been to numerous state and FCAC titles for many different sports at Greenwich High School, and we've won a lot of championships where I went to school, middle school, and eastern middle school. So I'd say we are unique for our great academic achievements as well as our great memorable athletic achievements. For instance, for me, we had a tough freshman season where we went 4-12 for the basketball season, and about the same record, I think it was 4-12 for soccer as well, but I was only 14 years old at the time, and I was starting as a freshman for both. And then I bounced back my sophomore year, we made it to the state quarterfinals for soccer, and then state semifinals that would have been finals, if not for COVID, for basketball both respectively. So I think we've had great achievements for athletics, and then I was on the high honor roll all throughout Greenwich, all throughout high school and my Greenwich High School experience. I was a distinguished scholar my sophomore year, so I think we just have a great reputation for academics as well as athletics.
