Kylie Wilson (Softball, Texas Southern University) grew up in Houston. HelloNation asks student athletes one question about the place that raised them and records the answer on camera. This is Kylie Wilson’s, in full.
The question
If someone had never been to your hometown, how would you describe its character and reputation? What makes it unique, memorable, or influential?
The answer, as recorded
Transcript. What follows is a transcript of the video above, in Kylie Wilson’s own words. It has not been rewritten, and no part of it was drafted for them.
My hometown is Houston, Texas, and it's a city that has shaped who I am today. What makes Houston special to me is the strong sense of community and the diversity you experience every day. Growing up here, I was surrounded by people from different backgrounds, cultures, and traditions, which taught me the importance of respect and connection. One of the biggest reasons Houston means so much to me is that it led me to Texas Southern University, where I am a student athlete on the softball team. Through TSU, I've had the opportunity to continue my education, compete in the sport I love, and build relationships with people who push me to be my best. Whether it's supporting local sports, attending community events, or coming together during difficult times, Houstonians always find a way to support one another. Houston is known for its opportunities, resilience, and welcoming spirit, and those qualities have helped me grow both on and off the field. That's why Houston will always be more than just my hometown. It's the community that helped shape my future.
