Kylie Wilson (Softball, Texas Southern University) grew up in Houston. HelloNation asks student athletes one question about the place that raised them and records the answer on camera. This is Kylie Wilson’s, in full.
The question
Tell us about a teacher or mentor from high school who challenged you the most or inspired you in a way that still shapes who you are today. Who are they, and what lesson from them do you carry into your life now?
The answer, as recorded
Transcript. What follows is a transcript of the video above, in Kylie Wilson’s own words. It has not been rewritten, and no part of it was drafted for them.
My high school softball coach, Coach Vidal, inspired me more than anyone because she saw potential in me even when I doubted myself. She expected excellence from every player and taught us that our attitude and effort were just as important as our performance. She never accepted excuses and always encouraged us to push beyond what we thought we were capable of. The biggest lesson I learned from Coach V was resilience. She taught me that setbacks and failures are opportunities to grow, not reasons to give up. I still apply that lesson today in school, work, and sports by staying focused on my goals and continuing to work hard even when challenges arise. The confidence, determination, and work ethic she helped develop in me continue to shape who I am today in everything I do.
