Kylie Wilson (Softball, Texas Southern University) grew up in Houston. HelloNation asks student athletes one question about the place that raised them and records the answer on camera. This is Kylie Wilson’s, in full.
The question
Tell a story about a moment when your hometown came together or achieved something that made you proud.
The answer, as recorded
Transcript. What follows is a transcript of the video above, in Kylie Wilson’s own words. It has not been rewritten, and no part of it was drafted for them.
One moment that made me proud to be from Houston was when the community came together after Hurricane Harvey. Even though many families lost homes and faced difficult challenges, people from all over the city stepped up to help. Neighbors rescued neighbors, volunteers distributed food and supplies, and local organizations worked tirelessly to support those in need. Seeing people from different backgrounds unite with kindness and determination showed the true strength of Houston. That experience taught me the importance of community, resilience, and helping others, and it made me proud to call Houston my hometown.
