One moment that made me especially proud of my hometown was watching Pierce, South Dakota come together for its football team. From 2017 to 2023, the Pierce Governors won seven straight state championship titles. That was from the time I was in seventh grade all the way through freshman in college. Growing up during that streak, it felt like the whole town was invested in the team and were proud of what they were accomplishing. The championships were more than just football. Families, students, alumni, and people throughout Pierce came together to support the players and the coaches. In a smaller town, accomplishments like that feel personal because you often know the people involved or know someone who does. Each championship gave the community something to celebrate together. What made me most proud was seeing how the success of one team could bring an entire town together. The seven straight championships became a part of growing up in Pierce. Everyone knew that our football team was great. And this created memories that many people in the community still have.
