Quentin Robertson (Basketball, Nebraska Wesleyan University) grew up in Shawnee Mission. HelloNation asks student athletes one question about the place that raised them and records the answer on camera. This is Quentin Robertson’s, in full.
The question
Tell us about a teacher or mentor from high school who challenged you the most or inspired you in a way that still shapes who you are today. Who are they, and what lesson from them do you carry into your life now?
The answer, as recorded
Transcript. What follows is a transcript of the video above, in Quentin Robertson’s own words. It has not been rewritten, and no part of it was drafted for them.
Hey, what's up? My name is Quentin Robertson, and someone who inspired me in high school was my head basketball coach, Ryan Hintz. Coach Hintz wasn't the type of coach that just cared about wins and losses, but he also cared about developing us into the best basketball players that we could possibly be, but most of all, developing us into the best humans that we could possibly be. He challenged me in different ways that I didn't always like, but it held me to the highest standard, not just in how I played, but also how I showed up every single day. One of my biggest takeaways from Coach Hintz was when he told us how you do one thing is how you do everything. That is something that I've applied to my everyday life. Now that I'm a former athlete, I try to carry that mindset with me wherever I go, whether it's in the classroom, at work, or building my future career. I try to approach everything with that same discipline and consistency that Coach Hintz expected of me back when I was playing basketball. I'm Quinton Robertson, and that is someone who has mentored me into becoming the person that I am today.
