Community Voices: Talan on how to describe WA to an outsider

If you've never been to my town in Raymond, Washington, it's really a small coastal fishing, farming community. Nothing too crazy. It definitely gives off the small town, Hallmark, movie vibes.

Talan Yearour (Basketball, Park University Gilbert) grew up in WA. HelloNation asks student athletes one question about the place that raised them and records the answer on camera. This is Talan Yearour’s, in full.

The question

If someone had never been to your hometown, how would you describe its character and reputation? What makes it unique, memorable, or influential?

The answer, as recorded

Transcript. What follows is a transcript of the video above, in Talan Yearour’s own words. It has not been rewritten, and no part of it was drafted for them.

If you've never been to my town in Raymond, Washington, it's really a small coastal fishing, farming community. Nothing too crazy. It definitely gives off the small town, Hallmark, movie vibes. Nothing too crazy and unique, I guess. The only thing I would say is that we have these, I guess, iron statues placed around town that aren't made anymore. And so whenever something does happen where a drunk driver does crash into it, they can't be replaced because the person who used to make them sadly passed away. But that's probably the most unique and memorable part about Raymond. Most influential part is that it is part of the town across, I call it, across town is South Bend, which is the oyster capital of the world, which a lot of people don't know about either. But that's really about it.
