Alex Trevena (Softball, Kent State University) grew up in Reading. HelloNation asks student athletes one question about the place that raised them and records the answer on camera. This is Alex Trevena’s, in full.
The question
Tell us about a teacher or mentor from high school who challenged you the most or inspired you in a way that still shapes who you are today. Who are they, and what lesson from them do you carry into your life now?
The answer, as recorded
Transcript. What follows is a transcript of the video above, in Alex Trevena’s own words. It has not been rewritten, and no part of it was drafted for them.
My best mentor from high school was definitely my high school basketball coach my freshman through junior year. His name is Coach Owens and he was a type of coach that realized that this was high school basketball and there's so much more to life than just basketball. He challenged me in ways to think of and learn about how to use the skills that I have in the future for my future jobs, college or anything like that. I just carry this with me because especially playing college sports I just want to take on that the lessons that I learned through my sports. It is so important to actually apply them after sports because there is so much of a life after the sport is over.
