Community Voices: Aidan on the person who shaped them in Mc Lean

A teacher or mentor from high school who challenged me the most or inspired me the most would definitely be my lacrosse coach, Coach Glennon.

Aidan Olazabal (Lacrosse, Yale University) grew up in Mc Lean. HelloNation asks student athletes one question about the place that raised them and records the answer on camera. This is Aidan Olazabal’s, in full.

The question

Tell us about a teacher or mentor from high school who challenged you the most or inspired you in a way that still shapes who you are today. Who are they, and what lesson from them do you carry into your life now?

A teacher or mentor from high school who challenged me the most or inspired me the most would definitely be my lacrosse coach, Coach Glennon. When I first walked into my first few days of high school, I didn't really necessarily know which direction I was going towards. Obviously, when I was 13, 14 years old, I was finding more about myself and learning about the type of person I wanted to be. One of the people that I instantly looked up to was Coach Glennon. He kind of drove the impetus that it's so much more than lacrosse. Lacrosse is a game that teaches you everything from being high character, having a lot of integrity, having a lot of ethics on and off the field. He was such an amazing role model who kind of led me down that path and really just had me focus on the aspects off the field. I'm entirely grateful for that, for him. It's led me to kind of drive that forward and to kind of pass it on with younger kids that I play with, younger lacrosse players that I coach. I would definitely say him.
