Aidan Olazabal (Lacrosse, Yale University) grew up in Mc Lean. HelloNation asks student athletes one question about the place that raised them and records the answer on camera. This is Aidan Olazabal’s, in full.
The question
Name three small business owners in your community who have had a meaningful impact on others or inspired you personally. Who are they, and why do they stand out as a pillar of your community?
The answer, as recorded
Transcript. What follows is a transcript of the video above, in Aidan Olazabal’s own words. It has not been rewritten, and no part of it was drafted for them.
For me in my hometown, which is McLean, Virginia, you know, 10 minutes right outside of the DC area. For three small business owners, I would say, you know, they're all actually, you know, local restaurants, local, you know, food spots, diners. You know, one of the first one that comes to mind is McLean Family Restaurant. The owner that, you know, my family and I have known for a long time, ever since we moved over to McLean back, you know, when I was 12 years old. His name is Jeff. And, you know, something that's so special about him and kind of why we always flock back towards, you know, McLean Family is because just how much he gives back to the community. You know, he really, you know, we've known him on a very personal level for a while now. And every single time just so heartwarming and so heartfelt to see him and to see his business going well. And, you know, the way he gives back to the community, you know, just treating everyone like as a child, like as his own family. And so, you know, I'm so grateful to be around him and, you know, to be served by him. And he's the man. For the next one, I would say another local diner, Silver Diner, Mark. Also, you know, very slimmer Jeff. You know, always just finding ways to give back to his community, you know, whether that's, you know, good deals or just making sure his presence is known towards, you know, when he's serving every single one of his customers. And the last one is Sweet Leaf, which is kind of like a breakfast lunch spot. Most serve out like sandwiches, salads, but Maria, I mean, she's, you know, she is awesome. The way she gives back to the community, you know, it's all about the relationships at the end of the day. And so that's what, you know, all three of them, you know, cherish so much. It's something that, you know, I am eternally grateful for. So.
