Community Voices: Antoin on the person who shaped them in Omaha

A teacher who inspired me the most and shaped me into the person I am today is the Brian Wingard. He helped me a lot during my high school years, not just as a teacher, but as a mentor.

Antoin Curtis (Track & Field (Outdoor), Umpqua Community College) grew up in Omaha. HelloNation asks student athletes one question about the place that raised them and records the answer on camera. This is Antoin Curtis’s, in full.

The question

Tell us about a teacher or mentor from high school who challenged you the most or inspired you in a way that still shapes who you are today. Who are they, and what lesson from them do you carry into your life now?

The answer, as recorded

Transcript. What follows is a transcript of the video above, in Antoin Curtis’s own words. It has not been rewritten, and no part of it was drafted for them.

A teacher who inspired me the most and shaped me into the person I am today is the Brian Wingard. He helped me a lot during my high school years, not just as a teacher, but as a mentor. He helped me after school with any problems I had with my homework, anything that I need to do academically, he was always there. He shaped me into an academic leader, not just into sports and music, but overall as a talented, real being. Thank you, the Brian Wingard.
