Michelle Weiss (Swimming & Diving, University of the Cumberlands) grew up in SD. HelloNation asks student athletes one question about the place that raised them and records the answer on camera. This is Michelle Weiss’s, in full.
The question
Tell us about a teacher or mentor from high school who challenged you the most or inspired you in a way that still shapes who you are today. Who are they, and what lesson from them do you carry into your life now?
The answer, as recorded
Transcript. What follows is a transcript of the video above, in Michelle Weiss’s own words. It has not been rewritten, and no part of it was drafted for them.
Hello, I'm Michelle Weiss, and I graduated from T. F. Riggs High School in Pierce, South Dakota. A teacher who really inspired me in high school was my Algebra II and Pre-Calculus teacher, Mrs. Rezac. I've always loved math, but she helped me realize that my love for math could become something more than just a subject I enjoy. The way she taught, supported her students, and made the classroom a place where I genuinely wanted to learn inspired me to pursue degrees in mathematics, secondary education, and middle school education. Even now, when I think of the kind of teacher I want to be someday, I think about Mrs. Rezac. I want my future students to feel supported, challenged, and excited to learn in the same way she made me feel. She showed me the kind of impact one teacher can have, and that's something I hope to carry into my own classroom one day.
