Hanna Davis (Lacrosse, Syracuse University) grew up in NY. HelloNation asks student athletes one question about the place that raised them and records the answer on camera. This is Hanna Davis’s, in full.
The question
Tell us about a teacher or mentor from high school who challenged you the most or inspired you in a way that still shapes who you are today. Who are they, and what lesson from them do you carry into your life now?
The answer, as recorded
Transcript. What follows is a transcript of the video above, in Hanna Davis’s own words. It has not been rewritten, and no part of it was drafted for them.
A teacher that inspired me in high school was my English teacher my sophomore year of high school, Mary Akdahl. And Mrs. Akdahl really just inspired me to really push myself and get out of my comfort zone. And this really brought me into the love of writing and just free writing and putting all my thoughts down on the paper. And she really just taught me that if you don't enjoy doing something, find a way to love it. And Mary just really paved the way for me to become a really good writer. And now today, every time I write, every time I write anything, whether it has to do with any other class, I just think of her and the fact that I love what I'm doing, and I love being a student, and that's all thanks to her.
