Community Voices: Jayden on what NC gets right

I think that going back to that topic of my high school, Olympic High School, I would mention again my high school coach, because aside from what he's done for me, he's in it for everybody.

Jayden Holmes (Wrestling, Montreat college) grew up in NC. HelloNation asks student athletes one question about the place that raised them and records the answer on camera. This is Jayden Holmes’s, in full.

The question

Tell us about a person or business doing something worth knowing about in your hometown — the town you grew up in, not your college town. Who are they, what are they doing, and why should people outside your hometown hear about it?

The answer, as recorded

Transcript. What follows is a transcript of the video above, in Jayden Holmes’s own words. It has not been rewritten, and no part of it was drafted for them.

I think that going back to that topic of my high school, Olympic High School, I would mention again my high school coach, because aside from what he's done for me, he's in it for everybody. People of color, people of disability, people who don't know the sport of wrestling, people who are just wanting to do it for fun. He's there to be supportive of everybody. And I think that is something that should be popularized, something that should be noticed, something that should be recognized. And not only just him, but his wife, Lori Bean, they were very supportive of every aspect of my life, and I think that's just something so important. I can't really stress that enough in words, but it's something worth noting.
