The question

Tell us about a teacher or mentor from high school who challenged you the most or inspired you in a way that still shapes who you are today. Who are they, and what lesson from them do you carry into your life now?

The answer, as recorded

Transcript. What follows is a transcript of the video above, in Kaitlyn Morningstar’s own words. It has not been rewritten, and no part of it was drafted for them.

Hi, my name is Kaitlyn Morningstar, and one mentor who really shaped who I am today is my high school track and field coach, Coach Henderson. When I threw in high school, there were a lot of days where progress felt slow or frustrating, but she always pushed me to stay focused and believe in myself, even when I didn't see immediate results. One thing she constantly was telling us was that it only takes one throw. That stuck with me. It meant that no matter how things are going, whether it's a bad practice or a tough day, you're always one moment away from turning it around. Because of her, I've learned to stay patient, trust the process, and keep showing up with confidence. That mindset still shapes how I approach challenges today, both in athletics as well as life.
