Kaleb Huff (Football, Hastings College) grew up in American Fork. HelloNation asks student athletes one question about the place that raised them and records the answer on camera. This is Kaleb Huff’s, in full.
The question
Tell us about a teacher or mentor from high school who challenged you the most or inspired you in a way that still shapes who you are today. Who are they, and what lesson from them do you carry into your life now?
The answer, as recorded
Transcript. What follows is a transcript of the video above, in Kaleb Huff’s own words. It has not been rewritten, and no part of it was drafted for them.
I'm Caleb Hough. I play football here at Hastings College, and my high school teacher who inspired me the most was definitely Mr. Kerr. He was my English teacher sophomore year and then my creative writing teacher senior year, and originally he really pushed us out of our comfort zone, and me especially, with the different authors he would make us read, and the poetry he would make us write, and the poet, and we would read poetry all the time, and initially I resisted it. It wasn't my thing until one day it just clicked, and I realized I had this great appreciation for the arts, and he would always teach us to think like a writer, and to be a writer in our own lives, and find meaning in the mundane, and that is truly, it resonated deeply with me, and I've taken that into the rest of my life, and I'll always remember his teachings, and yeah.
