Community Voices: Ryder on what TX gets right

Ryder Bradley (Basketball, Oakland University) grew up in TX. HelloNation asks student athletes one question about the place that raised them and records the answer on camera. This is Ryder Bradley’s, in full.

The question

Tell us about a person or business doing something worth knowing about in your hometown — the town you grew up in, not your college town. Who are they, what are they doing, and why should people outside your hometown hear about it?

Transcript. What follows is a transcript of the video above, in Ryder Bradley’s own words. It has not been rewritten, and no part of it was drafted for them.

My name is Ryder Bradley from Leander, Texas, and I play basketball here at Oakland University. And the place I wanted to shout out from Leander is Shields, which is a sporting goods store in Leander. And why I think they should deserve a shout out is because they're going to be one of the biggest stores in Leander, as well as they are completely employee-owned, which means everyone in the local community gets a chance to work there, gets a chance to grow through the community, and I think that's a really big thing for us. And especially being one of the biggest places in the area, I feel like it's really good. And I feel like the more attention that builds around it, the more Leander can grow as a community and together, as well as make it out of Leander and continue to build and grow throughout the country. So that's another reason why I think Shields is a really good place.
