Community Voices: Tatum on how to describe Celina to an outsider

I would describe my hometown, Salina, as being very unique with how we deal with everything that happens in our town. I think that we are able to come together as one instead of singular people.

Tatum Cross (Cross Country, Southeastern Oklahoma State University) grew up in Celina. HelloNation asks student athletes one question about the place that raised them and records the answer on camera. This is Tatum Cross’s, in full.

The question

If someone had never been to your hometown, how would you describe its character and reputation? What makes it unique, memorable, or influential?

I would describe my hometown, Salina, as being very unique with how we deal with everything that happens in our town. I think that we are able to come together as one instead of singular people. I think that makes it really good to come to Salina. I think Salina is huge and memorable. Though our reputation is very big on sports and football, I think that coming to Salina is more than that. I think when you get involved with Salina, you are getting great people, a faithful environment, who are very loyal to each other. I could go to my coaches, Coach Allison, Coach Keeby, and Coach Kreps, anytime I needed them to, Coach Z, and figure out how to deal with any problem, get advice from them. I think that's a huge thing that comes from being in Salina, is that you're always going to have a support system behind you. A lot of decisions I made throughout high school may have been tough ones, but a lot of them were backed by tons of advice from people who knew what they were talking about and I could go to for help. My parents were a huge factor in that. I think the move to Salina was a great thing because our reputation here is very welcoming and anyone who comes into this town will experience the Bobcat tradition right away.
