Community Voices: Tyler on how to describe Annapolis to an outsider

If you've never been to Maryland, it's one of those places where you're going to get tough love. It's one of those places where it's a gridiron, get-it-yourself type of environment, but very loving.

Tyler (Basketball, Bluefield) grew up in Annapolis. HelloNation asks student athletes one question about the place that raised them and records the answer on camera. This is Tyler’s, in full.

Tyler for HelloNation.

The question

If someone had never been to your hometown, how would you describe its character and reputation? What makes it unique, memorable, or influential?

The answer, as recorded

Transcript. What follows is a transcript of the video above, in Tyler’s own words. It has not been rewritten, and no part of it was drafted for them.

If you've never been to Maryland, it's one of those places where you're going to get tough love. It's one of those places where it's a gridiron, get-it-yourself type of environment, but very loving. You're going to get love and advice from a random person that you've never met before in your life, but it's going to be the correct advice. A memorable thing that can make it like that is just go out and play basketball. If you go to your local parks, or local events, or just even your local grocery stores, you'll hear, see, and feel the energy that I'm talking about. It builds a strong backbone that makes great people. It's very influential when it comes to kids as well, because they grow up to be strong, independent leaders.
