Tyler (Basketball, Bluefield) grew up in Annapolis. HelloNation asks student athletes one question about the place that raised them and records the answer on camera. This is Tyler’s, in full.
The question
Tell us about a teacher or mentor from high school who challenged you the most or inspired you in a way that still shapes who you are today. Who are they, and what lesson from them do you carry into your life now?
The answer, as recorded
Transcript. What follows is a transcript of the video above, in Tyler’s own words. It has not been rewritten, and no part of it was drafted for them.
A teacher or mentor that comes to my mind without a doubt is Dr. Anika from Living Water. Dr. Anika is an amazing person. She helped me more than just academically, but helped me become a real man. She's taught me traits that I even hold on to this day. I remember one time when I got a C on a project that I possibly and known that I could have got an A on it. She made me redo it and actually gave me an F. She was the director of the school and was not even a teacher. She had nothing to control it, but she wanted to push me and make me become a better person and remind me that even when you can take shortcuts, don't. They don't help you in the long run. And I will never forget that lesson. I thank you, Dr. Anika, for everything you've done for me to live in waters program. You will not be forgotten.
