Community Voices: Khevarus on growing up in GA

guys? Kavars Dawson here. Today I want to talk about downtown Monroe, Georgia. Man, downtown has changed so much since I was growing up there. It didn't used to be a lot.

Khevarus Dawson (Basketball, Reinhardt University) grew up in GA. HelloNation asks student athletes one question about the place that raised them and records the answer on camera. This is Khevarus Dawson’s, in full.

Khevarus Dawson for HelloNation.

The question

Tell us about the downtown or Main Street in your hometown — the town you grew up in, not your college town. What's there, what's changed? Name the places you'd point a visitor to, and tell us what's different from when you were growing up.

The answer, as recorded

Transcript. What follows is a transcript of the video above, in Khevarus Dawson’s own words. It has not been rewritten, and no part of it was drafted for them.

What's up, guys? Kavars Dawson here. Today I want to talk about downtown Monroe, Georgia. Man, downtown has changed so much since I was growing up there. It didn't used to be a lot. It was a very, like, old type of style. But, like, it's evolved a lot. They've grown, gotten murals, lights, monuments, you know, different food places, restaurants. A lot of local businesses are in that area. But when I was growing up, all the kids after school, we all went and hung out downtown. There was an ice cream shop called Scoops. There's a candle shop, like, what's it called, Knickknacks. Like, you know, the antiques, stuff like that. There's a lot of that around there. And it's just — it's a great area to, like, just go explore, go take pictures. Like, if I was to point someone to a place, it would definitely be the Scoops, the ice cream place. Like, that's my favorite ice cream in the world.
