Joseph Annan Jr (Basketball, Indiana University Kokomo) grew up in Indianapolis. HelloNation asks student athletes one question about the place that raised them and records the answer on camera. This is Joseph Annan Jr’s, in full.
The question
Tell us about a teacher or mentor from high school who challenged you the most or inspired you in a way that still shapes who you are today. Who are they, and what lesson from them do you carry into your life now?
The answer, as recorded
Transcript. What follows is a transcript of the video above, in Joseph Annan Jr’s own words. It has not been rewritten, and no part of it was drafted for them.
A mentor that challenged me from high school is Coach Cage. He showed me what it really took to be a basketball player at the next level. He pushed me hard, but he also built my confidence and made me believe I belong. One moment that sticks with me was after I had a big game against a top-ranked team in the state. I remember looking over at him and it hit me. All those workouts were finally paying off. The lesson he left me with is simple. Be consistent with what you want. It might not happen on your timing, but if you keep showing up, it'll come.
