Community Voices: Tyler on the time Annapolis came together

A moment that made me proud, especially to be a part of the Maryland community, was a moment when a family house got burnt down in the middle of the night.

Tyler (Basketball, Bluefield) grew up in Annapolis. HelloNation asks student athletes one question about the place that raised them and records the answer on camera. This is Tyler’s, in full.

Tyler for HelloNation.

The question

Tell a story about a moment when your hometown came together or achieved something that made you proud.

The answer, as recorded

Transcript. What follows is a transcript of the video above, in Tyler’s own words. It has not been rewritten, and no part of it was drafted for them.

A moment that made me proud, especially to be a part of the Maryland community, was a moment when a family house got burnt down in the middle of the night. Now this is a family that was known around the community to be a loving, kind, and help anybody type of family. If you didn't have any food in your cabinet, they were cooking for you that night. If you didn't have anyone to take you to work, they would try and find a way to drop you off. Even if you didn't have money in your pocket, they would still give you money. When that house burned down, it tore everybody. Everybody in the community came together, got food together, money together, and sheltered together to help this family out. Now this is a proud moment to be from Annapolis, Maryland.
